What began as a project highlighting the universal bond between humans and their pets has turned into one of the latest ways to celebrate unconditional love.

Dogs of New York is a social media/photography “journal” that captures creator Kim Wolf’s impromptu meetings and conversations with residents of the Big Apple and their furry friends.

Wolf is the founder and executive director of Beyond Breed, a volunteer- and Brooklyn-based nonprofit that aims to support the bond between pets and their owners.

“I was inspired by ‘Humans of New York’ and how it made individuals out of the 8.3 million people who call this place home, while showing the humanity that binds us together,” Wolf shares on Beyond Breed’s website.

Over the past two years, Wolf says she’s been able to connect with strangers and convey through her lens the unique relationship each has with their pup — not only via posed shots, but by capturing the interactions and emotions that transpire between dogs and their human owners.

Here’s a look at some of the pets and people featured in the project.
