The world of Harry Potter is a world we wish we could live in — even if we had to sleep in a cupboard under the stairs in the Dursley house at 4 Privet Drive. That’s why we’re so jealous of Poncho the Chihuahua and his Harry Potter-style bedroom.
Like a young Harry Potter, Poncho lives in a small makeshift bedroom under the staircase in his house.
But while Harry’s aunt and uncle mistreated him and refused (at least at first) to give him a proper room, Poncho’s family cares for the little dog greatly and created his pup-sized palace under the stairs out of love and with a meticulous attention to detail.
Imgur user Fatisbac posted photos of Poncho’s pad on the site a few days ago, and they quickly captured the hearts of dog lovers and “Harry Potter” fans alike.
“Visited my aunt’s new house over the holiday,” Fatisbac wrote. “This is the room she built for her Chihuahua.”
Poncho’s room features a brass doggy bed, a dog-sized dresser and a little piano. The walls are decorated with deer antlers, a sombrero and a tiny painting of dogs playing poker — a classic.
Poncho’s owner, Betty McCall, built the room as an alternative to a dog crate, she said in a YouTube video posted by Poncho’s Room.
The 4-year-old Chihuahua — who actually looks a lot like Dobby the house elf — gets “a little nervous and snippy” when company comes over, she explained. But instead of putting him in a crate, McCall asked her carpenters if they could build her a little room for Dobby, er Poncho. She then found the little American Girl brass bed and, thanks to some help from her sisters, the décor kind of snowballed from there.
“Poncho ended up with quite a room,” she said in the video. “He thinks he deserves it all, so I guess it’s OK.”
Sounds like Poncho would totally be a Slytherin.
