A flamingo in a Brazilian zoo gets an artificial limb.

A pink flamingo at the Sorocaba Zoo in south-eastern Brazilian has had a rough month. The 6-year-old bird fractured his left leg, and while reports are unclear as to how the injury occurred, the veterinarians at the zoo amputated the leg to stop an infection that would likely kill the flamingo, Breaking News reports. Since flamingos cannot survive with just one leg, veterinarian Andre Costa and the zoo vet team opted for an artificial limb. A local prosthesis manufacturer donated the carbon limb.

After the surgery, the flamingo is limping, but adjusting to his prosthesis, even posing in the classic flamingo stance.
