A manuscript about a tricky cat by Beatrix Potter will be released in the fall, publisher Penguin Random House announced last week.

“The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots” went through several drafts in Potter’s notebooks. It tells the story about a cat who leads a double life, and opens with:  “Once upon a time there was a serious, well-behaved young black cat.” We are intrigued.

Although she put it through several drafts, Potter never fully illustrated the story. But the manuscript will come to light this fall when Penguin Random House will publish the story, recovered from Potter’s archives in London.

Potter is best known for her classic children’s book “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.” Her work continues to draw fans; “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” has sold more than 45 million copies globally since first being published in 1902.

According to the publisher,  the title cat sneaks out at night to sneak away from a protective owner and undertake such adventures such as stalking an older, wiser and chubbier Peter Rabbit. Other Potter characters appear, including Mr. Tod, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Ribby and Tabitha Twitchit.

Will you pick up a copy of this new cat book?
