Earlier this month, Salix Animal Health, LLC, a company based out of Deerfield, Florida, recalled its 2.8-ounce bag of Good ‘n’ Fun – Beefhide Chicken Strips dog treats; the recall only included lot number AO15010, expiration date 03/2018 and UPC code 0 91093 82247 1. The company is now voluntarily expanding that recall to include expiration dates ranging from 02-2018 through 07-2018. The recalled product only applies to the Good ‘n’ Fun – Beefhide Chicken Strips dog treats with expiration dates within that range, packaged in 2.8-ounce bags, with item number 82247 and UPC Code 091093822471. No other products have been affected.
If you have this product, check to see if it’s part of the recall by looking at the back of the package. If the product you have has been recalled, either dispose of it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Salix Animal Health, LLC is also working with retailers – which include Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores nationwide – to have the product removed from shelves and not sold.
The voluntary recall has been issued due to the possibility of salmonella contamination, discovered after the Georgia Department of Agriculture conducted a sampling.
As a reminder, salmonella can affect dogs and other pets. Symptoms include vomiting, fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal pain and decreased appetite. Even if your dog appears healthy, he or she may still be a carrier and infect other pets or people. A veterinarian should be contacted if your dog displays any of these symptoms.
Salmonella infections can also affect people. Fever, abdominal cramping, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, vomiting and nausea are some of the symptoms that may appear. More severe – though rare – symptoms include urinary tract symptoms, eye irritation, muscle pain, arthritis, endocarditis and arterial infections. If you or someone in your household has any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.
Individuals who have any of the affected products or who have additional questions regarding the recall should contact Salix Animal Health’s consumer affairs team at (800) 338-4896, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
