Katy Perry Makes Scents

Katy Perry, cat lover, has her own fragrance called ?Purr? and a cat named Kitty Purry.

Katy Perry, a hot kitten in pop music, has her own fragrance. It’s called “Purr.” It smells just dandy. What else would you expect from a cool chick who has a cat named — wait for it — Kitty Purry! Her fragrance can be found at Nordstrom. You’ll love it.

Perry’s Purr is full of sweet-smelling stuff. Partnering up with Gigantic Parfums, the fragrance opens with a fresh citrus accord featuring peach nectar and forbidden apple with green bamboo. Supporting notes include a delicate bouquet of jasmine blossom, pink freesia and Bulgarian Rose, balanced by vanilla orchid, white amber, creamy sandalwood and musk. Perry was so hands-on, she even, apparently, helped to design the cat bottle.

Certainly the girl who sang about kissing another girl and who married the peacock-y Russell Brand is not going to be shy about describing her fragrant creation.

“I’m absolutely thrilled,” she said, “to finally introduce me in a bottle. There is a wonderful world of fragrances out there, but like with my music, I believe there is room for me and my own unique twist on it. Purr is a natural extension of who I am as a woman — it’s a gorgeous blend of all my favorite scents that embodies my style, my tastes and my love for all things incredibly cute. It is an absolutely purrfect perfume that I hope leaves you meowing with delight!”

No one should be surprised that Perry was so hands-on in the creation of both this feline perfume and the cat bottle that holds it. If you know your recent rock history, you’ll remember forever, the image of Perry coming out onstage dressed like Catwoman. With an oversize blow-up cat by her side. She used this image when designing the Purr bottle. It comes complete with jeweled eyes, metallic accents and opulent lavender coloring.

Perry’s partner in this enterprise, Gigantic Parfums, had this to say, by way of its CEO, Isaac Lekach.

“Distilling Katy’s personal style for her own fragrance was the ultimate goal. Katy worked with our perfumers to capture the distinctive notes of her favorite perfumes and hand-sketched the bottle design herself.” The perfume, he concluded, “is confident, sexy and a lot of fun.”

Now, we’re not just talking virtually, here. We, at CatChannel, have smelled and worn a trace of Purr. It has a light, almost peachy/vanilla smell that gets compliments as it weaves its subtle magic across the air. It’s as sexy as “Waking Up In Vegas” and, just as with the religious Perry, has traces of the demure and the shy.

One thing, though.

As much as we love both cats and fragrances, we do have to take exception to one Perry point. Katy has claimed that her cat, Kitty Purry, was the original inspiration for Purr. That it reminds her of the way the cat smells. We’re not saying better or worse, but cats, though luscious, just don’t smell like perfume. But can a little bottle greet you at the door at the end of a hard day? Nuzzle your legs and make you feel like everything’s going to be all right? No. Fragrances are sweet. And Perry’s among the sweetest. But one thing is for sure: they’ll never take the place of our cats.
