If cats really do have nine lives, a cat in New Orleans just spent one of his.

A small kitchen fire broke out in a home on Columbus Street in the Seventh Ward of New Orleans around noon Wednesday, trapping three cats inside, Fox8-WVUE reports.

Two of the cats were able to escape before the fire spread. The third cat was found lifeless in the hallway when the fire department arrived, according to the New Orleans news station.

The cat was immediately removed from the home and revived by an oxygen mask that is specifically designed for dogs and cats.

Doug Cardinale with the New Orleans Fire Department told Fox8 that the cat was returned to his owner, and he believed the kitty to be in good health.

  • Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Fire Departments also recommend using a Pet Alert Decal such as the ones that PetSafetyAlert.com makes to let them know that you have pets inside of your home incase of fire or emergency such as Hurricane Katrina.
