A man in Ireland is very happy that someone has found his pet rat snake that escaped nearly six months ago.
A homeowner in Dublin was doing some renovation work in his attic when the 5-foot-long reptile fell through a hole in the ceiling, landing on the homeowner’s head, according to the Independent.ie.
The man was able to cover the snake with a box and then called the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA). The man told the organization the snake belonged to the previous tenant, who after reading about the wayward reptile in the news, has come forward to claim his pet.
“We are delighted that we managed to find the owner, who is ecstatic to have found his snake,” Gillian Bird, a spokesperson for the DSPCA, told independent.ie. “It has been missing since last September. He was very upset and had spent a lot of time looking for it but hadn’t been able to find it.”
The snake was a little thin and dehydrated but otherwise is doing well given the fact that it had been on the lamb for the better part of six months. Bird said that the snake was too weak to eat, so they’ve been focused on getting his body temperature up and getting him hydrated.
