A Pit Bull has been taken away from her owner after standing guard over the woman’s body following a fire.
The woman and her father were injured in a house fire in Landover Hills, Maryland, and as firefighters extinguished the flames surrounding their home, the woman’s dog, Precious, stood guard over her body, News4 in Washington, D.C., reports.
And when first responders approached the woman to put her on a stretcher, Precious reportedly refused to leave her side.
The woman and her father, who have not been named, are going to recover, but Precious and her puppy, Molly, have been taken to an animal shelter due to a local Pit Bull ban. The dogs will not be put down and the owner can assist in finding the dogs new homes, but the woman will not be able to bring them back home, according to News4.
“I wish I could get her back, but right now, we’ve got bigger fish to fry,” the woman’s son told News4, referring to the damage caused from the fire.
This family just went through a whole lot at the start of the Christmas season, but hopefully there’s time to give everyone involved a happy holiday ending.
