After the dog's health took a turn for the worse, the man took a photo with his pet at the same spot when he first got the young pup.

The love one has for a pet doesn’t fade over the years, it only gets stronger. Photos can show proof of that lasting bond.

Reddit user Gordondel had a scare with his 15-year-old dog, Birdie, a few weeks ago. He thought his beloved dog was going to die, so Gordondel decided to get a picture with him one last time, recreated in the same spot (and in the same outfit) where he appeared with Birdie when the dog came into his life 15 years ago and later, when the dog was 10.

Birdie, maybe feeling the love, came back from being sick. In response to a question from Reddit user Blakwulf about whether Birdie’s health was good, Gordondel had this to say:

“I wish I could say yes, but I thought last weekend was his last, he’s back to his ‘normal self’ now but after several tests it still might be cancer. So it could be 6 months, it could be 2 weeks.”

The first picture shows Birdie as a young puppy staring straight into the camera or at least in the general direction of  the camera. Gordondel is wearing an oversize blue sweater with stripes down the sleeves, across the chest, around the cuffs and around the neck. The trees in the background next to a brick structure are sparse.

The second photo shows a full-grown Birdie at 10 years old. His jowls shows just a hint of gray. This time Birdie is looking off to the side. Gordondel looks a bit unkempt. His hair is long and his green and white boxer shorts are showing as he struggles to carry Birdie. The trees behind him also seem unkempt and have grown a bit wild over the years.

The final photo shows Birdie at 15 years old. Birdie’s face has grayed quite a bit, as has his belly. Gordondel has cleaned up quite nicely. And the trees next to the brick structure appear to hang over the roof definitely showing the passage of time.

Those who bring a dog into their home know that one day they will have to say goodbye to their furry friend. But the times that occur when the dog is first brought into the home, to the last days before the dog departs this world are often etched into their families’ memories. And photographs such as the ones with Birdie and his best friend will help to rekindle the fun times that were had together.
