To say Pippa the cat has been on a harrowing journey would be a serious understatement.

What probably began as a cat nap soon turned into a life-threatening voyage for one Australian feline.

Pippa the cat, who was first reported missing by her owner Rebecca Schilling in Darwin, Australia, over seven weeks ago, has been discovered in a shipping container more than 2,000 miles away from home, 9News reports. And even after 49 days without food or water, Pippa is amazingly still alive.

How this strange journey came to be seems surprisingly common. Jason King, the former neighbor of Schilling, was moving at the time, and somehow the 3-year-old Pippa ended up sealed in King’s shipping container.

When King opened the container 49 days later, the smell was the first indicator that something was amiss.

“I climbed up over things, and I found our expensive mattress had cat urine and vomit all over it,” he told 9News. “I took everything out and sure enough behind the very last thing, I found the cat.”

“I was surprised to find it alive… It was really light and bony. You could see its skeleton and its spine,” he added.

Pippa was suffering from dehydration and severe weight loss, but has since been moved to a foster home in the area, after weeks in recovery at an Animal Welfare League Shelter, 9News reports.

The question now is whether or not Pippa will return home to Schilling and her 10-year-old daughter Emily. Both have dearly missed little Pippa, but Schilling is concerned about putting Pippa back in a transportation setting and the trauma that extended travel could cause. Schilling is seriously considering the reunion though, but she is planning to keep it a surprise for her daughter.

No matter what happens, it seems like Pippa is tough enough to handle it.

Doei
