We’ve all been devastated by the death of a loved one. We cry. We wish they were still here. We look at pictures. If we have their ashes, we might sit there with them, and we might even talk to them. If the person was buried, there’s a good chance we’re visiting their graves often. As hard as it is for us, we often forget how hard it is on the pets of the deceased.

Cats and dogs get attached to their owners and miss them when they’re not around. They might go from room to room searching for their lost human. Or, if they happen to be this cat in Central Java, Indonesia, they spend every day on their human’s grave.

Keli Keningau Prayitno was passing by when he heard the cat crying and found her sitting on the burial place of Ibu Kundari, he former owner, The Mirror reports.

“Since the cat’s mother died she has stayed here at the grave. She does not want to go home. She has been here for almost a year. I thought she was homeless and tried to help but every time she would keep returning to the same place,” Prayitno, 28, told The Mirror.

Prayinto followed the cat and found she often goes back to Kundari’s old house.

“I saw her every day and noticed that she was always there, but sometimes would leave for a couple of hours then come back,” he said. “I followed her and she was going to the home where she used to live and the lady’s children would feed her. Then the cat would go back again to the same place. She sleeps there and meows. It’s very sad to see. It shows just how close animals are to their owners.”

Passers-by also leave the lonely kitty food and water, The Mirror reports, but the cat still won’t leave her owner’s blue grave, even after a year.

The kitty may be waiting for her owner to come back or perhaps she just misses her.
