North American Pet Health Insurance Month is fast approaching with September around the corner. To help celebrate, the North American Pet Health Insurance Association is accepting nominations for its Favorite Veterinarian and Favorite Pet Insurance Story contests. Entry deadline for both is Sept. 15.

This will be the second year that pet insurance companies in the United States and Canada will come together to recognize North American Pet Health Insurance Month. Last year’s pet insurance contests brought in thousands of entries, according to NAPHIA.

“We are very gratified that National Pet Health Insurance Month appears to be a positive and valuable effort,” said Loran Hickton, executive director of NAPHIA. “It is intended to help all pets and care providers by highlighting great pets and their owners, pet veterinarians, veterinary hospitals and the support of quality pet health insurance. We look forward to another successful year in 2010.”

For the North America’s Favorite Pet Insurance Story contest, pet owners, care providers and other members of the community are invited to submit stories of how pet health insurance has helped them in a situation when a pet was in need of medical care. The story must discuss pet insurance in action and a digital photo of the pet must also be submitted.

The winner will receive $1,000 and a donation of $500 in the name of their dog or cat to their favorite local shelter or rescue group.

To nominate a pet veterinarian for North America’s Favorite Veterinarian contest, entries must say why a particular veterinarian deserves this honor. The name, address, city and state of the veterinarian must also be provided.

The winning pet veterinarian will receive a $1,000 educational grant, plus a trip for two to receive recognition at the North American Pet Health Insurance Reception in Pittsburgh on Sept. 21. The grant can be used to attend continuing education programs, conferences and conventions or be applied to the purchase of needed veterinary diagnostic equipment. Runners-up in each contest will receive Apple iPads.

Entries for both contests are accepted online at NAPHIA’s website, where additional rules are listed.

North American Pet Health Insurance Month was first introduced in Canada by Petsecure Pet Health Insurance five years ago. It has since expanded to include NAPHIA member companies in the United States.
