Ever make eye contact with your pet and think, Wow, they are peering straight into my soul, right now? Well, photographer Robert Bahou is giving you the chance to return the favor.

In his new series, “Animal Soul,” Bahou gives us a peek into the exquisite beauty that is deep within the hearts of our pets. The Jordan-based photographer hopes to turn the series into a coffee table book, and he’s launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funding to self-publish the book.

Bahou describes the inspiration for this project on his Kickstarter page:

“I look for hints of truth in the photographs I make, and I have found that this is surprisingly accessible with animals. The reason for this is that I don’t believe animals understand what a camera is. As a result, they don’t behave the way we do when faced with a camera. They don’t adjust themselves, turn to their good sides, pull a prepared face, or hide anything. What’s left is a truly honest moment between them and the camera.”

Here are some of our favorites, which were almost impossible to choose, because they’re all truly amazing.

Not a negative bone in this spunky Husky’s body, obviously.

2. True Grump

He wasn’t too happy with me making photos, but he sat still, looking at me waiting til I said I was done. I’m reposting it because the other one was a little too low resolution.

8. True Survivor

Not a year old, found on the streets of Morocco, moved to Pakistan, Lebanon and Denmark, and now finally settled in Amsterdam, this is Maffin.
