Mike Incremona’s Pit Bull is one lucky puppy after surviving an evening swimming off the coast of New Jersey.

The 10-month old rescue pup named Remy became separated from Incremona the evening of May 27 after he jumped off a dock in Toms River, New Jersey, and disappeared into the dark of night. Incremona was apparently frantic, according to WABC 7 and started putting up lost dog fliers on every stop sign and speed limit sign in the area.

Remy meanwhile was doggy paddling all over until he made it to a marsh, where three teenage girls kayaking Saturday morning found him stuck in the mud in Silver Bay. Postal carrier Al Font told WABC 7 that Remy swam from a lagoon four blocks away to the marsh where he was found.

Font had just seen the missing dog sign when he watched the girls pull Remy out of the mud.

“He was stuck in the mud, halfway up his paws, so they had to rip the dog out of the mud and physically carry him out of the water,” Font told the news station.

Font then contacted Incremona via the phone number on the lost dog flier.

“He was really dirty, he had a couple ticks on him, I brought him straight to the animal hospital,” Incremona told WABC 7. “He lost about four pounds from treading water all night.”

Remy got cleaned up from his ordeal and Incremona was thankful that total strangers helped find his dog.

“He looked at me with the most sincere face and he said God bless you, and thank you so much for doing what you did,” Font told WABC 7.
