Raw Pet Food Company Recalls Dog Food Due To Salmonella Concerns

Possible salmonella contamination has prompted OC Raw Dog to recall one lot of its Turkey & Produce Frozen Canine Formulation.

OC Raw Dog of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, is voluntarily recalling 2,055 pounds of its Turkey & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation in four states because the product may be contaminated with salmonella.

The food was sold at pet specialty retailers in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado in 6.5-pound Doggie Dozen Patties and 5-pound Bulk Bags. These packaging has a use by date of 10/8/15 and a lot number of 1511.

The recall went into effect after the Nebraska Department of Food and Agriculture performed a routine sampling and found a presumed positive salmonella result, according to a press release posted on the FDA’s website. In the release, OC Raw Dog states it has stopped the production and distribution of the recalled product while the cause is being investigated and adds it is making changes to its production process to ensure the protection of its product.

For dogs, salmonella poses the risk of abdominal pain, decreased appetite, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, lethargy and vomiting. If your pet has been exposed to this product and exhibits any of those symptoms, contact your veterinarian.

Humans who have been exposed to salmonella may experience vomiting, nausea, fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramping. In rare cases, individuals may also experience urinary tract symptoms, muscle pain, eye irritation, endocarditis, arterial infections and arthritis. Those at increased risk are young children, individuals who are frail and/or elderly and people who have weakened immune systems. If you or family member experiences any of these symptoms after handling the Turkey & Produce Frozen Canine Formulation, contact your healthcare provider.

Those who have purchased the Turkey & Produce Frozen Canine Formulation with the lot number and use by date listed above should take a picture of the package with the lot number and email it to Olivia@ocrawdog.com. The product can then be returned to the point of purchase for either a full refund or a replacement product.
