Rescue Dog Who Looks Like A Bat Will Make You Do A Double Take

Tucker, a mixed breed rescue dog, has a rare disease but he doesn’t let that slow him down.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Tucker. Tucker is a 3-year-old albino Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua/Miniature Poodle mix. He doesn’t look like most dogs. He looks more like a bat… or maybe Falkor from the 80s movie “The Neverending Story.”

Throwback to when I starred in The Never Ending Story. ? #tbt #throwback #thursday #neverendingstory #falcor

But Tucker is all dog. It’s just that he was born with a rare disease called Mucopolysaccharidosis VI (MPS VI). Those with MPS VI, also known as Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, do not produce a certain enzyme that allows the body to break down large sugar molecules (or they produce the enzyme but it doesn’t work properly). As a result, the sugars build up and cause progressive cellular damage. It’s common for those with MPS VI to have enlarged organs and various skeletal abnormalities, including short stature and joint deformities that affect mobility, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Living with MPS VI can be a challenge. Tucker has difficulty walking and often has to wear goggles to protect his eyes, which have turned cloudy.

But as evidenced by his popular Instagram page @tuckerwearsgoggles, which has more than 62,000 followers, Tucker is, in many ways, just like any other dog.

He loves belly rubs.

Good stuff ?

And he does it all with a smile on his face.

Tucker may look different, but he wants to love and be loved just as much as any other dog.

  • Hi there…do glad I found this precious dog. He is so special. I wanted to ask if you have looked into getting him some wheels to help him get around a little bit easier. Marley’s Mutts could possibly help with that. They have helped so many dogs and one of his dogs named Hooch has just won Hero Dog 2016. Hooch was terribly abused and even had his tongue cut out. Zack is the owner and I think he might be able to help with getting Tucker some wheels. Take a look at his page and if you like I will reach out to him.
