Meet Rex. He’s a senior Boxer who was on the list to be euthanized due to his degenerative myelopathy (a spinal disease that causes hind leg paralysis) after being found as a stray in Orange County, California.
Luckily, in October 2015 when he was 10 years old, Rex was pulled from the shelter and brought to rescue group Leo Puppy Mill Survivor.

“We agreed to take him,” Holly Walthers of Leo Puppy Mill Survivor told The Dodo. “Once Rex got here, he was still able to use his rear legs, but did wobble some. We hiked a bunch from October 2015 through January 2016. He then was unable to hike anymore with the progression of his degenerative myelopathy.”
At the time, Rex’s best friend was Tyson, another Boxer with degenerative myelopathy, The Dodo reports. After Tyson’s passing, Rex was left without a best friend.
Enter Smores, the guinea pig.

“That same week Tyson passed, a gal I knew from a rescue reached out and asked if I would help out a guinea pig that was rescued from a bad situation. The guinea pig was safe at her house, but getting very little attention from her kids — she wanted a better life for Smores,” Walthers told The Dodo.
Soon the unlikely duo because inseparable, doing just about everything together – as besties do.
They go on walks together.
Rockin Rex and Sidekick Smores here: We geared up and went out today. I thought I would show you how we "roll"on Team Leo. Life is so much fun especially with my Bestie Smores by my side. She loves to ride with me and I am pretty sure she enjoyed the warm weather and the good company. And nope she never tries to take the lead!
I LOVE my life!
Rock on Team Leo!
