Parrot Festival raises funds to support local bird rescues

The first annual Spokane Parrot Festival takes place May 12, 2007 at the Mont Lamm Belgian Event Facility in Deer Park, Washington. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and has a free admission.

The parrot festival’s goal is to raise money to support local bird rescues TLC Bird Haven and Cockatiel Relocation Stations. Festival planners hope to raise enough money to build a free-flight aviary for TLC Bird Haven, provide avian supplies and funds for food costs and to help support the rescues’ parrot foster and education programs.

The list of featured speakers include Dr. Stewart Metz, director of the Indonesian Parrot Project, Robin Deutsch, author of The Healthy Bird Cookbook; Pamela Clark, avian behaviorist; Nickol Finch DVM and Rosemarie Asterino DVM.

The festival’s events include live music and dancers, mini-horse rides and activities for children, arts and crafts, parrot supplies and food vendors. A raffle and an auction are also scheduled as part of the festivities. An adoption center booth will also be open all day with information about the two rescue organizations and pictures of parrots that are available for adoption.

The Festival committee is seeking volunteers to help plan and run events for the festival.
