Well, Mr. Poopy Pants gate-crashed a party this week. He didn’t get to meet President Obama but he did get to enjoy his first Thanksgiving turkey. Cherri and Nick decided to give Isabella the night off from having to deal with this rambunctious kitten. So she stayed home in Hollywood and Mr. Pants joined the rest of the family for a real Thanksgiving feast.
He wasn’t officially invited and unlike that couple in Washington, D.C., he wasn’t angling for a reality show. Fortunately, everyone seemed thrilled when he popped out of his carrier.
He is no stranger to his “grandpawrents’ ” house as he’s been for sleepovers before. But seeing the furniture rearranged to accommodate everyone around the table piqued his curiosity. So of course he had to get on the table to inspect and quickly got shooed off. It didn’t keep him from trying again.
I have to admit I couldn’t blame him because the aromas emanating from the kitchen were only surpassed by the taste of the various dishes. When the turkey was finally carved and served, he was given his own bowl with shredded meat and lots of the juices that the bird had been slowly cooking in for hours. He lapped it up and did his Oliver Twist impersonation. And yes, we gave him some more!
Cherri did pack a to-go bowl for Isabella and she tucked later that night.
I found a great turkey leftover recipe for cats and forwarded it to Cherri to try making for her turkey-loving felines.
Although this should only be given to your cat in small amounts and should never replace a commercial cat food diet, this can be used as a delicious treat to reward your cat on special occasions or for training purposes.
Feline Turkey Supreme
Makes 4 servings
1 turkey breast, cooked and chopped fine (Be sure to remove all the bones)
1/2-cup carrots, diced
1/4-cup spinach, diced
1/2 cup green beans, diced
3/4 cup cooked brown rice
No-salt turkey broth
Combine turkey, carrots, spinach and green beans. Add rice and enough chicken broth to bind ingredients. Cool until mixture is lukewarm and serve.
I couldn’t make it for Fudge because I didn’t get any turkey leftovers. If anyone tries it, please let me know if it gets two paws up.
