Involving your dog in your Halloween celebration can be lots of fun… unless your dogs are like mine and rip costumes to shreds and sit at the window and bark at trick-or-treaters. As it turns out, my dogs may not be the norm nowadays.
There are more and more dog costumes and ways to include your favorite pup in the celebration. Big Heart Pet Brands conducted a survey to find out which states most included their dogs in Halloween festivities. My state, California, ranked 27th. To find out where your state ranks, check out the image, above. Virginia was at the top of the list, with 43 percent saying they let their dog greet trick-or-treaters, 57 percent saying their dogs get extra treats on Halloween, 21 percent revealing they take their dogs to doggy parades, 36 percent stating their dogs go trick-or-treating and 64 percent of people saying they dress up their dogs in Halloween costumes.
That’s not surprising, considering National Retail Federation reports that 20 million people this year will spend $350 million on costumes for their pets.
In a recent poll conducted by eBay, the top five costumes for pets were:
5. Necktie (turning any dog into a gentleman)
There were also a couple of “Star Wars” costumes that received honorable mentions, including Darth Vader, Princess Leia and this Yoda costume:
