There’s only one thing you need to know about this week’s featured cat café: It’s in Italy. What more could you ask for? OK, so you probably want to know a little more than that, no matter how fantastic Italy is.
Neko Café is located in Torino (Turin), Italy, a city rich with culture, from art galleries and architecture to opera houses and theatres, and of course restaurants. I could spend several paragraphs talking about how wonderful authentic Italian food is. Don’t worry; I won’t. But since we’re on the subject, the Neko Café menu is split into three sections: Bar, Torteria and Ristorante. From the bar menu you can choose from various beers, fruit juices, sodas and coffees, including Moroccan Nutella. I don’t know exactly what that coffee tastes like, but it has Nutella in it, so I’m in. The torteria menu consists of a variety of teas and pastries (two of the items also contain Nutella, but that may be too much chocolate). The ristorante menu offers appetizers, first course dishes and main course dishes (all include vegetarian and vegan options). Reservations are recommended, as tables are limited.
And as for the cat part of this café? There are seven in residence – Matisse, Lotte, Werther, Faust, Bernard, Felix and Max. All hail from a cat shelter and all are spayed or neutered. The cats are allowed to behave… well, like cats, and there are games, cat trees and a variety of other entertainment for the cats. However, knowing a cat can have too much excitement, the café is closed on Mondays so they can rest.
Neko Café opened its doors on April 5, 2014. The café is located at via Napione, 33 Torino, Italy. They are open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit their website.
