Love truly works in mysterious ways. Take the case of an unidentified man in Malaysia who apparently married a 10-foot cobra because he claimed the snake looked like his former lover who had died.

The man, who was inspired to marry the snake due to the Buddhist belief in reincarnation, spends quite a bit of time with his scaly paramour, according to the Daily Mail. Photos have shown the man working out at the gym while his slithery, significant other counts the reps as he lifts weights.

Another photo shows the two lovebirds taking in the latest Malay soap opera, while another showcases the duo taking in a board game.

The man’s girlfriend apparently passed away five years ago, and the venomous snake has taken over the woman’s role as doting wife. The neighborhood in which the man lives is well aware of the relationship between man and snake.

The man has since ignored all warnings from those folks who are concerned that cavorting with a cobra may lead to the man’s own reincarnation.
