Boston Dynamics released a video of the new robot on YouTube yesterday and it’s already garnered quite a lot of attention. And why not? It’s a dog robot that does your chores.
So here’s the skinny on SpotMini. As the name suggests (or states outright), SpotMini is a smaller version of Spot.
It weighs 55 pounds (or 65 if you include the arm), according to the YouTube description. It’s an all-electric robot minus the hydraulics and runs for 90 minutes on a charge, depending on the chore it’s performing. It’s quiet and can perform numerous chores around the house. Some of the tasks are done on its own, according to YouTube, while others are in essence taught to it by humans.
What chores can SpotMini do?
It can wash dishes.
It can take out the trash.
SpotMini even exercises… you know, to stay in shape and have energy for all the chores.
It’s great for the days you just don’t feel like cleaning and if you have children, they’ll certainly love it (especially if they’re already getting their real dog to eat the veggies they don’t like – they’ll be thrilled to have SpotMini do their chores!). SpotMini is the perfect robot for those who want their dogs to help out around the house but don’t have the time to train them.
Just be careful. It slips on banana peels like a real dog, too.
