15 Reasons Why Pets Are Better Than People

Human beings are great and all, with their verbal communication and opposable thumbs, but pets are still so much better.

It’s hard to accurately compare a human being’s traits to those of a cat or dog and determine which species is better. I mean, it’s apples to oranges to clementines, really. But I will say that more often than not, I prefer the company of animals to people, and I know I’m not alone.

Our pets are amazing companions who are always there for us when we need them. Their lives revolve around our schedules, and they’re happy to do whatever we want to do — especially if we choose to lie on the couch all day.

In a modern world where we’re under constant scrutiny — in our real and digital lives — it’s no wonder so many of us prefer to hang out with our pets over other people. People are the worst sometimes. And the time we spend with our pets is blissfully scrutiny-free.

So in honor of National Pet Day, here are all the reasons pets are way better than people.

1. They are fantastic listeners.

They never interrupt, they never talk over you, they never twist your words, and they never disagree with you. Mostly because they can’t actually do any of those things, but isn’t that kind of the point?

2. They never judge.

God knows you’ve caught them in some strange and incriminating situations sooooo…

3. They won’t criticize you for being lazy.

They love it when you’re lazy. Lazy time = snuggle time = nap time. And this is their favorite time.

4. They destroy your feelings of loneliness.

Date stood you up? How could you possibly feel lonely when you come home to this?

5. They are amazing snugglers.

It’s always cuddle o’clock somewhere. And you don’t have to worry about them sticking their cold feet on you.

6. They always have your back.

They will always be on your side. Mainly because they don’t know what you’re talking about, but still.

7. They surprise you with their cuteness.

Just when you thought they couldn’t get any cuter, they go ahead and blow your mind in the most adorable way possible. Sure, humans can surprise you, too, but usually it’s in the wow-you-are-awful kind of way.

8. They let you think you’re in charge.

Sure, you gave them a home and feed them, and they need you to survive. But they also have you so well-trained that you sometimes give them extra treats because “they deserve it.” Yeah, so who’s ACTUALLY in charge here?

9. They support your eternal love of food.

You love food. They love food. You’re always thinking about your next meal. So are they. THEY. GET. YOU. And they would NEVER tell you you’re getting fat.

10. They don’t care how you look.

They would never give you a dirty look for running errands in pajama pants and an old paint-stained T-shirt. In their eyes, you are perfect. Just as they are perfect in yours.

11. They are always happy to see you.

Would a human race to the door every time you came home — even if you were only gone for 3 minutes? I think not.

12. They are fiercely protective.

Whenever a threat arises, they’ll step in front of you and protect you from harm’s way — even if that threat is just a noisy vacuum.

13. They’re always in a great mood.

People can be such Debbie Downers. Who needs that kind of negativity in their life?

14. They are really easy to impress.

You don’t need a flashy car or lots of cash to make your pet happy. You just need to be you.

15. They love you unconditionally.

When you feel completely and utterly alone, they’ll be there. And when it feels like nobody in the whole world understands you, they do.
