It can be a struggle to earn the illustrious title of Employee of the Year at your place of business. You have to go above and beyond – and make sure the higher-ups notice – every day. That could mean coming in early and staying late, taking on extra assignments not under your job description, never taking a sick day and countless other things. Coming up with a list of reasons why you or a coworker deserves that title could be difficult.

Unless you’re a cute cat who works at Lowe’s.

Wilson, who has already been named Official Bird Catcher, works part-time at Lowe’s in Pikeville, Kentucky. He’s recently been diagnosed with renal failure, resulting in the possibility that his home improvement store career may be coming to an end soon. Thankfully, photos of Wilson at work were posted on Imgur by Vool. They, of course, show off the top eight reasons why Wilson is the prime candidate for the Lowe’s Employee of the Year.

Reason No. 1: He Inspects The Carts From The Inside Out

Customers don’t want their tools to suddenly fall out of the shopping cart. Wilson makes sure that doesn’t happen.

Reason No. 2: He Doesn’t Let Break Time Interfere With His Duties

Meals and work are equally important.

Reason No. 3: He Monitors The Parking Lot

Customers feel safe heading to their vehicles with their paint samples and plants when Wilson is around.

Reason No. 4: He Tests Out The Furniture

This is a very important job.

Reason No. 5: He Ensures There’s Enough Room In The Shipping Boxes

Customers would be displeased if their cat-sized gardening supplies didn’t fit nicely in the box.

Reason No. 6: He Helps Customers During Purchases

Wilson wants to make sure no one has buyer’s remorse.

Reason No. 7: He Leads His Coworkers In A Morning Yoga Session

Exercise is important, especially when you’re on your feet all day.

Reason No. 8: He’s Awesome

Just look at him chillin’ at Lowe’s.

So what do you think? Should Wilson be named the Lowe’s Employee of the Year?

  • If whoever owns him isn’t going to take care of him through his illness and euthanize at a time all pet owners/lovers know it’s time to let the animal go in peace, he shouldn’t be there. I certainly hope he’s taken care of properly with all the love and care he deserves. Otherwise, please find him a home even if short-term the person will love him and take care of him like he deserves.

    • Wilson does have a home in a subdivision behind the store, family, and is getting the care he needs. He just loves going to Lowes.

He’s been going there for years and the community has grown to love him as a part of the store. He has his own Facebook page where you can follow his story and see pictures everyone has shared.

    • Wilson’s backstory is what makes this so special. He has a home and family in a subdivision directly behind lowes. For years, about 7, I think they’ve said, he has wondered over to the lowes garden section and likely caught mice and critters. Over the years, he transferred himself to other departments in the store. My first encounter was in 2012, when I walked in the door and seen a big beautiful cat strolling the store. I immediately petted him and called the number on his collar to let them know their pet was at lowes. The response was “oh we know. He loves it there.” ? He loved to lay under the Christmas trees in the winter, and has helped me pick out paint several times. Lowes even has his own little red vest with name that he has worn. He would walk over on the mornings and in the evenings, would either walk back or be picked up by his family. The employees and customers LOVE Wilson, and our community is heartbroken because of his illness and subsequent retirement. I never went to lowes without searching for him, and usually finding him lounging in the garden center. It made trips to lowes much more fun and something to look forward too. He is definitely employee of the year.

  • Wilson brings customers to Lowe’s, people linger to watch him & then start buying more stuff. He makes everyone smile. If Talkeetna Alaska has Stubbs, an orange tabby btw, as Mayor of its town, we surely can have Wilson as employee of year!

  • I think he deserves to be the employ the year and I think Lowe’s is great for allowing him to be a part of their family. Any company who will allow an animal to stay around is A+ in my book.
